​Gaze Photography

 

In my photography, I privilege body language as the primary form of expression. Influenced by my early exposure to dance and music, as my mother was a ballerina, I developed an intuitive understanding of movement from a young age. When I began my journey as a photographer, it felt like a natural progression to document performers and dancers onstage and behind the scenes.

My extensive training in various dance techniques, from classical ballet to West African dance, allows me to anticipate steps and choreographic patterns as they unfold. This embodied knowledge enables me to capture each dancer’s unique expression and to reveal the dynamic energy within fleeting moments of performance.

 

Born and raised in Italy, I initially pursued a BA in Biological Sciences at Università La Sapienza in Rome. However, my passion for photography led me to complete a Diploma at the Scuola Romana di Fotografia e Cinema. After relocating to New York City, I dedicated myself fully to photography.

I have balanced my work as a visual artist, exhibiting internationally using various analog and digital photography techniques with my career as a dance photographer. I served as an in-house photographer for the dance theater company Mare Nostrum Elements Inc. for ten years and have collaborated with numerous emerging and established dance companies.  I have been traveling worldwide since 2022 as a photographer for DanceBUG, covering national and international dance competitions.

As an artist and a mother of two, my creative practice extends into every moment of my life. I believe there is a continuous, dynamic flow beneath each phase of our existence. Movement is the invisible thread that connects us all beneath the surface.
